Rude comments, abuse and humiliation from bullying can be damaging for our self-worth. But to then be told that it’s “harmless teasing” and that “that’s what friends do” can make you believe you’re the one to blame.

When Harshita Kumari told her teachers about being bullied, they put the onus on her, while Tanishka Shinde was told it was nothing to be taken seriously. But both of them still battle anxious thoughts as adults. And even though Vilakshan Sharma’s bullies were suspended, he believes he lost a lot of the best years of his life finding faults with himself.
