Small Ways to Incorporate Fitness Into Your Everyday Life

Your biggest investment is yourself.

How many times have you decided that you will get fitter only to fall off the wagon a few days later? Setting unrealistic goals and not having a plan in place could be where you’re fumbling on your fitness journey. 

We may be eight months into the year, but it’s never too late to start working on those resolutions you might have made at the beginning of this year. We spoke to Brett R Palframan, a personal trainer, entrepreneur, and athlete to learn how to embark on a healthier lifestyle and find the motivation to stay on that path. 

What are some small changes people can make to get more exercise into their routines?

Look at scheduling exercise into your daily routine. Block off your diaries if necessary. You only need to start with at least 30 minutes, three times a week. Treat it as importantly as you would a business meeting since it is your biggest investment, yourself.

For people who have mostly sedentary lifestyles, what are your tips to move more and become active even in an office or work from home setting?

Be creative, find ways to move around at home or at the office. If you’re on a call, try walking around the office when you’re chatting. Also, use the stairs as much as possible. If you can, get a smartwatch that counts your steps and movement, it will remind you that you need to move and achieve your daily goals.

For people who are still not comfortable going to gyms due to the pandemic, what types of exercise options are available to them?

If you’re still not comfortable with training at a gym, try an outdoor option, such as group training or a bootcamp. Or you use what you have in your house, be creative and use your body weight to get you moving. There is an ample amount of knowledge out there on YouTube that will give you ideas, just search for ‘no equipment training at home.’ Lastly, many trainers have launched virtual training options with programs such as Zoom for those that still need the added push.

What are some of the ways that people can continually find the motivation to remain on their fitness journey and work towards making it a more natural part of their everyday life?

Set yourself a goal and even better a deadline. Since the idea of getting fit and healthy is just that —  an idea — you need a deadline to push yourself towards. As I mentioned before, your best investment is yourself.
